44 years today the Tornado graced our skies for its first flight ❤️ I love the Tornado and love seeing it fly - sadly not for long as it retires next year - what exceptional service.

A little tribute to II(AC) Squadron and the Tornado. 104 Years ago today, on 13 August 1914, II(AC) Squadron RFC flew their Royal Aircraft Factory BE2s from Dover, England to Amiens in France. The first one to arrive was Lt Hunter Dunsterville Harvey-Kelly in aircraft number 471, the first British aircraft to arrive in France during World War I.
On 14 August 1974, 44 years ago, the first prototype of the Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) took place at Manching in Germany. The type was eventually named Tornado and was one of the aircraft II(AC) Squadron would eventually operate from January 1989.
