From air policing and peace support, through to high intensity conflict, the Typhoon provides the RAF with a flexible and highly capable aircraft that significantly enhances its war fighting capability. Currently, Typhoon protects sovereign airspace in the UK and the Falkland Islands 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 2011 Typhoon successfully completed peacekeeping missions over Libya on Operation ELLAMY, flying from Gioa del Colle in Italy, which demonstrated the Typhoon\'s flexibility and reliability. This summer, Typhoon will have a further high profile Air Defence role as part of the RAF\'s layered approach to UK air security for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The RAF Typhoon Display 2012 is provided by 6 Squadron based at RAF Leuchars in Fife. This will be the first year the display has been flown by a front line squadron.
