Peace Vanguard is a Long Term Stationing and Cooperative Agreement between the Republic of Singapore and the United States Government. The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) commenced operations at Marana, Arizona (Silver Bell Army Heliport) on October 2001. Peace Vanguard was officially inaugurated in April 2003 by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tony Tan. The detachment currently comprises of eight AH-64D Apache Longbows and personnel from both RSAF and Arizona Army National Guard (AZARNG). The RSAF personnel are accompanied by family members residing in the city of Tucson. Since its inception in October 2001, the detachment has achieved remarkable flying hours and has trained more than 100 AH-64D pilots as well as scores of air force engineers in the development and management of the aircraft. 2013 marks the 10th anniversary since Peace Vanguard’s inauguration. In the last decade, Peace Vanguard has participated in various high end exercises that enhanced its capabilities to complement the wider spectrum of operations required of the AH-64D in the 3rd Generation RSAF. The detachment personnel will continue to grow from the sharing of experience and expertise by the US Army as well as the continued participation in these high end exercises to help the SAF develop a more potent attack helicopter capability.
