Description

Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1256 - Number 83 Group, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. No. 83 Expeditionary Air Group re-formed in 2006 to command the Royal Air Force contribution to operations in Afghanistan and the Middle East in support of ISAF, Coalition and UK strategic objectives. In August 2013, the threat of conflict with Syria saw an expansion of the 83 EAG mission to include the Defence of UK interests in Cyprus with Typhoon, Tristar, Sentry AEW1 and tactical control elements deployed to the island. These assets were supplemented by HMS DRAGON, in an expanded 83 EAG Joint Operating Area which extended across 2000 miles. At the height of activity in the Autumn of 2013, 83 EAG commanded concurrently Joint Air Defence in the Eastern Mediterranean, support to transition and redeployment in Afghanistan and a substantial regional engagement effort in the Middle East.
