Squadron Prints Lithograph No. 1640 - 8001, Typhoon FGR4, 80th Squadron, King Fahad Air Base, Royal Saudi Air Force. Print produced for the squadron for exercise Cobra Warrior 2022 - an exercise which unfortunately got cancelled last minute.
On 1st January 2018 the RSAF formed the 80th Squadron as the second operational Typhoon FGR4 squadron at King Fahad Air Base (KFdAB), Taif. The first in service flight of an RSAF Typhoon took place on 12th September 2009 and by February 2018 the 3rd, 10th and 80th squadrons had combined to deliver 50,000 flying hours across the RSAF Typhoon Force. In March 2022, 80th Squadron successfully deployed to RAF Coningsby, UK in support of Exercise COBRA WARRIOR 22-1. Exercise Cobra Warrior is an annual, UK Air Warfare Centre led, Large Flying Exercise in which air forces from around the world combine to plan and execute complex mission sets within extremely realistic, high-end warfighting scenarios. Throughout the exercise up to 80 fast-jets participated daily, testing pilots’ skills and training in large, multi-national missions while simultaneously cementing key, military relations with partner nations. During Exercise COBRA WARRIOR 22-1 80th Squadron Typhoon pilots were afforded the opportunity to operate alongside RAF Typhoon, USAF F-15E/C, USAF and Belgian Air Force F-16, Swedish Air Force SAAB Gripen and Indian Air Force Tejas aircraft deepening their knowledge and understanding of other nation’s capabilities while validating and developing RSAF Tactics, Techniques and Procedures in a realistic, but controlled training environment.
