Gripen E is a fully NATO-interoperable multi-role fighter tailored for demanding operational requirements in the 21st century Network-Centric Warfare environment. It made its maiden flight in 2017. Gripen E has unrivalled role change capabilities for tactical flexibility. It carries the latest weapons and stores, including the IRIS-T and Meteor Air-to-Air missiles, a variety of Air-to-Surface weapons such as the RBS-15 Mk4/F, multiple GBU variants and racks for Small Diameter Bombs. An entirely new highly sophisticated modular avionics architecture and advanced software techniques combined with advanced Human Machine Collaboration (HMC) and embedded Fighter Intelligence deliver new war fighting capabilities. The sensors suite includes an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) based radar and an Infra-Red Search and Track (IRST) sensor and a cutting-edge Electronic Warfare (EW) and self-protection capabilities. Gripen E is the single seat variant and Gripen F is the two-seat variant. Gripen E tail number 6002 pictured above is one of the test aircraft being operated at Flight Test and Verification and is being used as a production status development platform to test, evaluate and expand the capabilities of the Gripen E/F. Here presented with a loadout for a self-escorting Air-to-Surface mission using 2x IRIS-T, 5x Meteor and 2x RBS-15MK4/F.

The Gripen E Order is a prestige society for all those who have flown Gripen E-series aircraft. The Gripen E Order was established at Saab Linköping, Sweden, in 2021.

The Gripen E father, as the first person to ever fly the Gripen E aircraft, was Marcus Wandt who performed the maiden flight on the 15th of June 2017.

Full Members of the Gripen E Order have flown in the front seat, alone, or with a passive instructor in the back seat. They are awarded with the Golden Gripen E patch.

Honorary and Associate Members will fly as a passenger in the rear seat of the Gripen F and they will be awarded with the Silver patch.
