Gripen C/D is a fully NATO-interoperable multi-role fighter aircraft, ready to perform an extensive range of Air-to-Air, Air-to-Surface and Reconnaissance missions under all conditions in any environment. Gripen uses the latest technology and sensors and can carry a wide range of weapons and stores. It is designed to meet the demands of existing and future threats, while simultaneously meeting strict requirements for mission success, reliability, training efficiency and low operating costs. Gripen is currently being operated by a number of nations around the world and comes as a single seat version, Gripen C and the two-seat version, Gripen D. Gripen D tail number 822 pictured above is operated at Flight Test and Verification. This aircraft is also used for demonstrations to important guests evaluating the fighter during flight for a “hands-on” Gripen experience.

The Gripen Order is a prestigious society for all those who have flown the Gripen aircraft. The Gripen Order was established at Saab Linköping, Sweden, in 1991.

The Gripen father, as the first person to ever fly the Gripen aircraft, was Stig Holmström who performed the maiden flight on the 9th of December 1988.

Full Members of the Gripen Order have flown in the front seat, alone, or with a passive instructor in the back seat. They are awarded with the Golden patch.

Honorary and Associate Members have flown as a passenger in the rear seat of the aircraft. They are awarded with the Silver patch.
